History of Presbyterian Church of Pakistan

The irrevocable union of the United Presbyterian Church of Pakistan and the Lahore Church Council of the United Church in Pakistan is the expression of their oneness which has resulted in their common witness to be more effective. The said two churches over a century have had a close working relationship and in a mutual consultation on November 20, 1992 at shalom Christian center at Jhelum came to a final conclusion to be get united. A committee was formed to work out the detail of this union. The union committee after a joint session nominated a sub-committee to work out its written constitution so that the new church has a uniform constitution. The name given to amalgamated church is Presbyterian Church of Pakistan (PCP). The uniform constitution of PCP was formed and approved by the General Assembly meeting of the PCP, held in Naulakha Church Empress Road Lahore in November 1993. It was registered under the society registration act 1860. The Filing Certificate # RP/185/L/S/83/5008 was given to PCP. The name of the Association is THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF PAKISTAN.

The amalgamation of the Synod of the UP Church of Pakistan and the LCC (Lahore Church Council) took place in November 1992 and the Care Taker Setup was formed and it worked from November 1992 to November 1994. The Annual General Assembly meeting of PCP (Presbyterian Church of Pakistan) was held in November 1994 and Rev. Dr. Piyara Lall was elected as the first Moderator and served till 1997. Then, in 1997 Annual General Assembly meeting of PCP the moderator election was held at Sialkot. Rev. Dr. Ajmal Khan was elected as the Moderator of the PCP. Because of the positive struggle of all the moderators and their teams, at present 24 presbyteries are working to spread the gospel without caring the suffering and persecution. Message from Moderator’s office

Grace, Mercy and Peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, will continue to be with us who lives in truth and love. I am grateful to our Almighty Gracious Heavenly Father who has chosen and called me to serve the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan. I believe that He has furnished me with the wisdom to serve as his committed servant.
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, let us not forget that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and God’s special possession that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. “1-Peter 2:9 (NIV)”
So let us join hand to work together and realize the authority to tread on serpents and scorpion, and over all the power of the enemy. I do believe that the Church is suffering and being persecuted from the terrorists. We all know that terrorists have got no religion. They struggle their level best to destroy the peace of this world. I believe that we are the ambassadors of the Prince of Peace, so it is our first most duty to teach, preach and perform the acts leads us towards peace. I would also like to bring into your notice that according to the Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan every church, society, organization even if they are charitable or welfare they must be registered with the Joint Stock Companies under society Act 1860, if the above mentioned institutions are not registered they are illegal. The Registration filing certificate of Presbyterian Church of Pakistan is RP/185/L/S/83/5008. This number is issued to Rev. Dr. Ajmal Khan. We know, O Lord, that your regulations are fair; you disciplined us because we needed it “Psalm 119:75 (NLT)”.
It will not be justified if I ignore the Missionary from the United States of America who has shed their blood to lay the foundation of Christianity in Pakistan. I salute to the martyr and pray that their families continue their outreach mission.
May the Grace of our Lord poured out abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Christ as the head of Presbyterian Church of Pakistan be glorified and honored through it use. Amen.
Best regards.
Rev. Dr. Ajmal Khan.
